The John Deere 95H combine was already 35 years old when I photographed it near the Blue Mountains in 1998. Watching the farmer lead three similar machines around the field on that summer afternoon, I knew I was witnessing a remnant of history, one that didn’t include air-conditioned cabs, stereo, and comfortable seats. Ten years later the older combines, with few exceptions, were gone.
The Sunday Scan features images taken on film before 2003. They’ve been digitized using a Nikon Coolscan V ED scanner, and processed using Photoshop and Silverfast software.
