Jacob Cline Bee Balm

Among the early summer flowers congregating in our garden, none is more welcome than the Jacob Cline* Bee Balm, nor more attractive to both photographer and hummingbirds.

Aside from its intense color, I most enjoy how the flower’s regal countenance is counter-balanced by a modest resemblance to a jester’s hat.

*Monarda didyma ‘Jacob Cline’ was discovered by Georgia plantsman Jean Cline near the Blue Ridge Parkway, and named for his son.

Flowers always make people better, happier…they are sunshine, food and medicine to the mind.
